What A Small, Non-Living Thing Can Do

A Covid-19 Poem

Disease, coronavirus disease, (COVID-19),
Virus, severe acute respiratory syndrome, coronavirus 2, (SARS-CoV-2) 

Why so many names? No wonder it is nicknamed, ‘the king virus’
Before it was a pandemic, it was an epidemic, and before that, it was nothing
Then it soared high above statistics and that’s when it gave itself its own name

Affecting many people in one area and spreading its arms out across the world and affecting everything else
Separating families, friends, and even jobs
The virus received all this fame

Will this virus, this disease, strike havoc any longer?
Or will there be a cure? A virus killer?
And so begins the questions that need answers

What has the virus done in terms of having fun?
Touch - Bad. Cough - Bad. Breathe - Bad
The list could go on and on, and what’s worse? QUARANTINE!

The thought of staying home for two weeks
Not being able to go anywhere, not even to the store
That’s when it hit. This virus is it.

It’s what is making us feel separated from others, but it doesn’t have to end there
It’s what’s making people feel afraid as if this will be the end, but it doesn’t have to end there

This disease, coronavirus, severe acute respiratory syndrome,
non-living thing doesn’t have to make us feel like it’s the end,
whatever it is, it has clearly made some of us come together

So in this time, let’s not think about what this virus can do to us,
but let’s think about what we can do to encourage and to help others in this time of uncertainty

This will not have to end here.
